CLUBS & ACTITIVIES

Art Club
Art club is offered for 3rd-5th grade students on Thursday afternoons. Students are given the opportunity to express their passion for art outside the regular art classroom. 


Cursive Clubs 1 and 2

Cursive Club is offered for 2nd - 5th students. Tuesday morning for 4th and 5th  and Thursday mornings for 2nd and 3rd. Students are taught the basic skills of cursive handwriting with practice each week that will help your child help improve their handwriting. 

Robotics Club
Robotics Club meets Wednesday mornings. It is for students in grades 4th and 5th grades. In Robotics Club students learn to program robots to accomplish a variety of tasks. Robotics requires problem-solving, persistence, and a variety of math skills. 


Red Cedar RAKtivists
The Red Cedar RAKtivists will work to make the world a better place by practicing Random Acts of Kindness. Our main focus will be on small acts of kindness that can be done on a daily basis. Occasionally, we will participate in a larger service project, which may require us to meet outside the regular meeting time. RAKtivists is for K-5 students and meets on Tuesday afternoons from 2:45 - 3:45.


First Tee
The First Tee golf club is an internationally respected youth organization that promotes life skills and leadership through the game of golf. It is open to students in grades 3rd-5th. Students are expected to carry out these life skills that they learn while playing the game of golf, at home and at school. We will meet on Tuesday afternoons from 2:45-3:45. 


Drum and Dance 
Drum and Dance, led by Dr. Corley, Ms. Ratzel and Ms. McGhee with the help of an occasional staff member who plays along, is open to all third, fourth, and fifth graders. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:15-7:40. The students play full-size snare drums, toms, trios, bass drums, and cymbals. We march in the Bluffton High School Homecoming Parade sometimes and the Bluffton Christmas Parade. We also play for programs and other events. When we come to attention, the team is asked, “Can we do this?” their reply is, “We can do anything!” 

Beginning Dance

Beginning Dance is an opportunity for 2nd grade students who enjoy dance to study technique and learn choreography. We will meet on Wednesday mornings from 7:20-7:40 and focus on ballet, tap, and jazz styles. This is a year-long commitment and dancers will be expected to attend all rehearsals unless otherwise excused. This will allow us to prepare for two performances throughout the school year. 


Dance Ensemble I 

Dance Ensemble I is an opportunity for 3rd grade students who enjoy dance to study technique and learn choreography. We will meet on Mondays from 2:45-3:45 and focus on ballet, modern, and jazz styles. This is a year-long commitment and dancers will be expected to attend all rehearsals unless otherwise excused. This will allow us to prepare for two performances throughout the school year.

The Red Cedar Sports Club

The sports club will take place in the spring. Students will learn how to play multiple sports. Each month a different sport will be selected for us to learn how to play correctly and safely. This club for is having fun and learning how to play the sports that you guys love. Anyone willing to sacrifice a few extra minutes of sleep for some exercise and fun please come on by!

Foxes Jam 1, 2, and 3rd Grade Violin
We have an after-school opportunity to learn instrumental music that is being provided by the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.  You can choose to play either the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, or trombone.  These lessons will take place after school in the music room from 3:00-3:45. Friday lessons will be 3rd-grade beginning violins. Lessons will be taught by Nathan Kooi, RCES’s music teacher, a certified and experienced instrumental music teacher. 

Foxes Sing

Foxes Sing is for 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students on Mondays from 7:15-8:45.

Project LIT
ProjectLIT is a nationwide book community with chapters in elementary, middle, and high schools throughout 47 of the 50 states.  Our school club, the first chapter in Bluffton, is for students in 4th and 5th grades.  The purposes of this group are to:

  • spread a love for books and reading throughout our school and community
  • celebrate reading through our club meetings
  • host community and school book events related to the books we read three times throughout the year
  • promote literacy in our school and community through a club service project. Club advisers are Dr. Pratt, Mrs. Shaner, and Mrs. Kubic. ProjectLit Book Club will meet on Mondays after school until 3:45 in Mrs. Pratt’s room.

Red Cedar Gazette 
The Red Cedar Gazette newspaper club is for 5th graders and meets on Wednesdays from 11:15-12:15. The student reporters will conduct interviews and research to write articles that will be featured in the twice a year publication of the Red Cedar Gazette. Students will also hear from guest speakers that are professionals in the journalism industry.
