Dr. Kathleen Corley, Principal

Corley and Foxy

Dr. Corley is a lifelong Cubs fan who achieved one of her lifelong goals by watching the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

Dr. Corley was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago. She attended T.F. South High School in Lansing, Illinois. She earned a bachelor's degree in music education at the University of Illinois, then a master's degree at Roosevelt University, Chicago Musical College. Her doctorate was earned in educational administration at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Corley taught music in Palatine, Illinois and served as assistant principal there as well. Her first principalship was in Lynchburg, VA, at Heritage Elementary School. She later opened The Saltonstall School with a team of teachers in Salem, MA. In 1999, she and her husband, Wayne, moved to Bluffton to open Bluffton Elementary, and later opened Red Cedar Elementary, serving as its only principal.

Cynthia Laizer, Assistant Principal 

Laizer

Mrs. Laizer was born and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania where the winter is cold and the pizza is delicious.  She moved to Beaufort, South Carolina in 1997 to begin her teaching career.  She has since taught on both sides of the Broad River in areas such as early childhood and reading intervention before becoming the instructional coach when Red Cedar opened its doors in 2009.  She is National Board Certified and holds a Master’s Degree in Literacy. 
In 2012, Mrs. Laizer earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina, and in 2018, she became the assistant principal at Red Cedar.
Mrs. Laizer lives in Bluffton with her husband and three daughters: a Red Cedar Fox, a Bluffton Middle Mustang, and Bluffton High Bobcat.
