Dr. Kathleen Corley, Principal

Dr. Corley is a lifelong Cubs fan who achieved one of her lifelong goals by watching the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

Dr. Corley was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago. She attended T.F. South High School in Lansing, Illinois. She earned a bachelor's degree in music education at the University of Illinois, then a master's degree at Roosevelt University, Chicago Musical College. Her doctorate was earned in educational administration at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Corley taught music in Palatine, Illinois and served as assistant principal there as well. Her first principalship was in Lynchburg, VA, at Heritage Elementary School. She later opened The Saltonstall School with a team of teachers in Salem, MA. In 1999, she and her husband, Wayne, moved to Bluffton to open Bluffton Elementary, and later opened Red Cedar Elementary, serving as its only principal.

Mr. Vaughn has been a dedicated educator in the Beaufort County School District since 2011. Over the years, he has served in multiple roles including 1st and 2nd grade teacher, math interventionist (1st-5th), and currently as Assistant Principal. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina Beaufort and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of South Carolina.

As Assistant Principal, Mr. Vaughn is committed to eliminating barriers for students, families, and educators to ensure that every student receives the highest quality education possible. His leadership is grounded in building meaningful relationships and fostering a supportive school community. He was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2014, highlighting his passion and dedication to student success.

A proud native of South Carolina’s Lowcountry, Mr. Vaughn enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children (Their 3rd is on the way!). He is also a big fan of all things Disney, bringing a spirit of joy and enthusiasm to his work at Red Cedar. His greatest joy comes from connecting with students, families, and staff to create a welcoming and nurturing environment for all.
