Ms. Bernstein and Ms. Harms

Hello Our Names Are...

Mrs. Harms and Mrs. Bernstein

      Tanya Bernstein K/1 Teacher

Mrs. Harms -
As a stay at home Mom, I was at school volunteering for over 20 years.  When my own children went off to college, I began teaching full time.  I’ve taught in Bluffton for 10 years.  I’ve been at Red Cedar since the school opened in 2009.

My Bachelor's Degree in Education is from USCB here in the low country.  I am highly certified in Early Childhood Education.  My joy is teaching a multi-age classroom with diverse abilities.  I teach because I enjoy making a difference in the lives of children.

Our family moved to this area in 1995.  We have enjoyed the slower pace and natural beauty here.  Both of my children graduated from Beaufort County Public Schools.  Both graduated from South Carolina State Colleges and now have received their Master’s Degree. My husband and I live in Bluffton with our dog, Scooter and my mother, Marion.

Mrs. Bernstein -
I am married to my wonderful husband, Jason. We have two daughters, Maddie who is 12 and in 7th grade and Abby who is 9 and going into the 4th grade. They take up most of my free time, but some hobbies that I enjoy are traveling, cooking, and the arts.

I grew up in Northbrook, Illinois about a half hour from Chicago. I love everything about Chicago: Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls and deep-dish pizza but the weather not so much! I moved to Bluffton 4 years ago. I love the weather and the scenery of the low-country.

This is my 1st year at Red Cedar Elementary. I have been teaching for 23 years, mostly in Pre-K and Kindergarten in both private and public schools.. I have a degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in child psychology from National-Louis University. I have a Masters in Education in Integrated Arts and Curriculum from Lesley University in Cambridge, Ma. I absolutely love teaching the little ones! It is my mission to instill a love for learning in my students. I attempt to teach with a passion so my students develop a desire to become life-long learners. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. It is so important to keep communication open between us and I would love to talk to you whenever you feel the need.  I look forward to a great year together!
